It makes ice, but...
OK, the Danby Ice N Easy makes ice as quickly as it advertises and you don't need a drain. However there are several things that you might want to know before buying one of these babies...

1. The ice tastes like plastic - I tried vinegar, baking soda and flushing the icemaker with gallons of water, but no joy.

2. The ice melts very quickly - it's not hard ice like you get from an icemaker that lives in your freezer. This has a nasty problem of then making your drink taste like plastic as well.

3. It frequently runs into problems like ice cubes getting lodged in places they shouldn't be, which automatically shut off the system until you attend to it - which means, it stops making ice.

4. When the bin gets full, the unit stops making ice. OK, this makes sense. However, there is no freezer unit in the icemaker, so the ice melts. If you don't need ice for several hours, then all you will have is a melted ice blob because the unit doesn't...

Cool Party Time
Just purchased this machine recently and am very pleased with the product. It makes ice in 3 sizes as promised and is stylish as well. It takes longer to make the ice than I had thought, but you can add the water and forget about it until the bucket/tray is filled. Like all portable ice makers, the ice melts and the water is recycled into new cubes. The "cubes" are really hollow rounded shapes that cool drinks quickly. The tray holds a good quantity of ice.

I filled up plastic bags and stored them in the freezer for coolers. Great for cocktails or for making blended drinks. Good product for those of us without icemakers on their refrigerator.

PROs:
This machine makes hollow ice cubes quick as promise. I like the 3 different sizes setting. It's so very easy to use, I didn't even touch the user manual.

I'm an ice chewer and it's the main reason why I bought this machine. I love SOFT LAYERED ICE and it does a perfect job. These soft ice cubes has milky frosty color and flaky texture. They also melt quickly. I don't think the ice taste like plastic but the machine itself made of plastic and it does smell! Hmm..m Maybe tiny little AFTERTASTE in my mouth but that could be from the water.

*EDIT* After using this machine for a month, the AFTERTASTE HAS GONE. It's only the first three-four batches of ice that tasted funny. Just like any icemakers, you have to toss the first few batches.
